Harvard Public Health Review – Microbiome Project

This illustration, for the Harvard Public Health Review, is about the vast number of little creatures that inhabit our bodies. The article points out that we’re mostly just apartment buildings for other microbial creatures, pointing to new research by the HSPH that has identified and analyzed the vast human “microbiome” and found 5,000,000 microbial genes inside our bodies as proof. To put those numbers in perspective, that’s about a 100 times as many microbial genes as human genes.
